I don’t often use this space for recommendations, but this one I simply have to share: Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is hands down one of the best games I’ve played in a very, very long time. Just go get it!

KCD2 is a vast open-world RPG set in 1403 Bohemia – present-day Czech Republic – and it stands out by being firmly rooted in real historical events and locations. You play as Henry, a humble blacksmith’s son, turned companion to nobleman Sir Hans Capon. The two are separated early (and repeatedly) by the chaos of war and fate, and it’s up to you to carve Henry’s path through a beautifully realized medieval world.

What makes KCD2 truly special is how real it feels. This isn’t a world of dragons and wizards – it’s a world of mud, steel, politics, hardship, and breathtaking authenticity. Every village, tavern, forest and fortress feels alive, crafted with a love for history and realism that’s incredibly rare in games today.

The story? It’s remarkable. Deeply human, often tragic, sometimes hilarious, and full of tough choices that stick with you long after you’ve made them. And then there are the distractions – the good kind. I’d set off on a small detour just to check out a ruined cottage in the distance… only to get completely absorbed in a multi-hour side quest with just as much depth and care as the main storyline.

Then there are the little moments – sitting in a tavern as night falls, listening to the idle chatter of locals, overhearing a rumor that leads to a new thread to follow… it’s immersive in a way few games manage to achieve.

If you’re a fan of games like The Witcher 3 or Red Dead Redemption 2, and want something grounded, historically accurate, and incredibly detailed, this is the one. The combat is brutal and skill-based, the world is stunningly beautiful, and every choice feels like it matters.

Get ready for a deep dive into the Middle Ages – rarely has history been this beautiful, brutal, and utterly captivating.
