Loenvatnet, also known as Loen Lake, is a lake located in the municipality of Stryn in Vestland county, Norway. It’s part of the Nordfjord region, lying just to the east of the village of Loen and north of the Jostedalsbreen National Park. The lake is known for its deep blue color and the dramatic mountains that rise steeply from its edges, making it a popular spot for tourists seeking natural beauty and outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, and fishing.

One of the historical aspects of Loenvatnet is its association with two major rockslide-triggered tsunamis in the early 20th century. In 1905 and again in 1936, large rockslides from the nearby mountains fell into the lake, causing massive waves that destroyed farms and caused loss of life along the shore. These events have led to significant interest in geological and safety studies in the area to prevent similar disasters in the future.
