A lightweight and compact fishing reel, aka. Hobo (or hand) Reel
These reels are meant as simple but very compact alternatives to normal fishing rods. You won’t be able to cast as far or feel/snag the fish as easily, but they take little space in your backpack and will help in a pinch. Even more so if you fish with live bait and a bobber/floater.
This was also my first model submission to Thingiverse, and a small project based on a video I saw about the topic, and an already made model on Thingiverse. However, the model I tried was too big for my small-ish hand and a bit short, so I decided to try to make one for myself with a few extra goals:
- Try to make it as lightweight (but still durable) as possible
- Make it fit my hand
- Make ridges or something similar for a better grip
- Make a fitted bobber/floater
- Make a small container for those pesky small parts
- A cover to protect the line and hook
The result is what you see here. I enjoyed making this reel, and look forward to trying it out 🙂
